Un extraordinaire accordéoniste brésilien issu de cette culture que l’on appelle gaucha, (..). Renato et ses petits camarades — Pedro Figueiredo (sax soprano, flûtiste), Vitor Peixoto (piano) et Daniel Sá (guitare) — proposent une musique, certes traditionnelle mais qui se mêle au jazz et qui fait aussi écho avec la musique du Río de la Plata. Renato “Borghettinho” est un musicien très connu au Brésil, avec une vingtaine d’albums déjà publiés. Pourtant, ce magnifique interprète tourne peu en France. Écoutons ces thèmes originaux superbement interprétés auquels se joignent quelques standards comme “São Jorge” (Hermeto Pascoal) et surtout une version magnifique autant qu’originale du chamamé “Merceditas”, jouée sur la gaita ponto de Renato. Wow, this is good! The music (...) is full of invention and virtuosity. Borghetti is himself a player of great dexterity, capable of pyrotechnics and lyricism, but he doesn't feel the need to push himself forward relentlessly as the front man in what is a true ensemble. Borghetti's diatonic accordion, which he plays with passion and flair, is technically the lead musician's instrument, but flute, piano and acoustic guitar, share the stage here, and there's some fine percussive guitar playing by Daniel Sa. Borghetti's folk ... has an expansive register and emotional range, and is an introduction to a sound as removed from the world music radar as its heartland is off the tourist map. Renato Borghetti ist einer der ganz großen Instrumental-Künstler Lateinamerikas. In seiner Musik fließen europäische, afrikanische und lateinamerikanische Elemente zu einem gediegen-fulminanten Crossover zusammen. Hier, bei einem Live-Auftritt in Brüssel im Mai 2009, der jetzt als „Andanças“ veröffentlicht wurde, steigt man sanft ins Konzert ein.
Besonders fein auch hier auf „Andanças“ wieder das lyrisch-feurige Zusammenspiel von Akkordeon und Sopran-Saxophon, das den genialen Sound der 2004er CD „Gauchos“ heraufbeschwört. (Thomas Divis, 4/3/2011, read comlete review >>)

Dan weer zacht, dan weer genadeloos hard. Maar altijd vol passie en gevoel. In Borghetti's handen wordt de accordeon een leven wezen. Een schepsel waarin alle menselijke gevoelens, of ze nu mooi of lelijk zijn, naar boven komen. Away with winter depressions
Some music just has to be played as loud as possible, preferably with doors and windows wide open, to enable to deliver a blast of energy to every neighbour or passer by. The Brazilian accordionst Renato Borghetti and his magnificent musicians are delivering this kind of music. .... The gentlemen play solos that are behind comprehension.
