Alexander Balanescu is one of the most visionary and exciting violinists or our time as well as a prolific composer. With a repertoire centred in contemporary and new music he is always looking to the future.
Born in Romania he wemt to the Special School for Music at the age of seven. Studies continued in the Rubin Academy, Jerusalem, Trinity College on London and at the Julliard School in New York. He took part in many master classes with e.g. Pinchas Zukerman, Itzhak Perlman and others.
Before forming the Balanescu Quartet in 1987 he performed with many major contemporary music groups, the last one being the famous Arditi Quartet.
His own quartet commissioned many works, as well as playing Alexander's own compositions. Due to collaborations with the Pet Shop Boys Pina Bausch, Meryl Tankard and others they travelled all over the world in many different venues and festivals.
